Overview

The Sierra de Andújar N. P. forms part of Sierra Morena, one of the main systems of mountain ranges in Spain. Located in northern Andalusia, in the northwest of the province of Jaen, this beautiful natural space lies between the Rivers Yeguas and Jandula. The gently rolling Natural Park is densely wooded and boasts one of Andalucia’s best preserved expanses of Mediterranean forest and scrubland. The dominant vegetation is mediterranean, with cork and holm oak woodland, and the geology is granite, quartz and slate.

It hosts a large numbers of hoofed mammals such as red and fallow deer, wild boar, Iberian ibex and mouflon. Small carnivorous such as otters, genet and wildcat, and It is home to many endangered species: birds such as the magnificent Spanish Imperial Eagle and Black Vulture, the shy Black stork, as well as the most endangered cat in the world: the Iberian lynx. This Natural Park currently holds the best and most important population for the conservation of the species, with about 250 specimens, which is around 40% of the world population.

WILDLIFE OBSERVATION EQUIPMENT
Our guides are provided of high quality optical equipment (binoculars and telescopes). However, it is highly recommendable to bring your own set.
PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT
According to the targeted species, 300 to 600 mm lens are recommendable. Macro lens, photo filters for landscapes and tripods can be very useful, as well as replacement memory cards and batteries.

Our guides will get clients advice about different facts like local species, species behaviour or responsible wild fauna photography.
CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR
Although humid, winter conditions are not extremely cold (around 0ºC), reaching low values like – 6º C when a cold snap occurs. Warm and waterproof boots, warm clothing, gloves, winter cap, scarf and rain coat, in case of rainy conditions, are recommendable.

In spite of occasional heat waves and cold snaps, mild climate conditions are the predominant during spring and autumn. It is recommendable to wear warn clothes, rain coats and confortable waterproof footwear. Sun cream is also recommendable.

In summer, temperatures may overcome 40º C during the day while nights stay warn. Therefore, cool clothing, confortable shoes, long trouser, sunglasses, insect repellent and sun cream are the best option.
WILDFAUNA SIGHTINGS AND GOOD PRACTISES
In spite of exploring the best areas with the most skilled guides, none species sightings, including Lammergeier is guaranteed. Our company counts with a high percentage of success.

TIMETABLE
To get the best wildlife observations, early morning is the desirable departure time.

However, departure time will be set once you find your accommodation and adapted to every season.

The length of the full-day journeys is 8 - 9 hours, adapting them to the weather conditions given by different seasons. Thus, the best option is to try to get and advantage of the best hours to spot fauna. It is recommendable to avoid central hours, which can be used to rest when days are very long from May to September.

In winter, full-day journeys from dawn until dusk will be the main option, including pic-nic on the way.
FOOD
We focus on local products and traditional recipes based on Mediterranean food, offered in the accommodation places we work with. Tell us if you have any food intolerance and we will report it.

Breakfast is served just before leaving in the morning. Meal may be pic-nic, if we stay outside, or in the hotel if weather conditions are not suitable (especially in late spring-summer-early autumn), going back to the countryside in the evening.

During journeys we take water. However, we recommend taking some extra water bottle by clients in case of major need.
